did you feel the last breath on your neck?

Friday, February 29th, 2008

So lately I’ve been listening to stuff that’s been on my iPod for like ever.  I haven’t really been interested in listening to anything new in a while.  I’ve decided to get out of that funk and start listening to some new stuff.  My first recommendation is a duo called Beach House.  It’s perfect music for just chilling out and I love her voice.  Here’s the video for “Heart of Chambers”

This weekend I plan on taking it easy and listening to lots of new music.

Weekend

Monday, February 18th, 2008

Update on my weekend.  Saturday was pretty relaxing.  I made omelets for breakfast and went into the city for dinner at Los Dos Molinos.  The guacamole was creamy but not very flavorful and the food was way to spicy for me.  They do make a mean margarita though.  Brett and I were done after 1.  We ordered 2.  Sunday was laundry day and a venture to Long Island to see Finch.  Party Eddie was in his element and it was pretty great.  We got to watch the band from the stage, and I got to snap a few photos from the pit.  The lighting sucked though, so I only got a lot of mediocre shots.  Oh well.  The band was ok, but they are hit or miss live.  This girl Rachel was there, from Mass.  She was always at the treos/faraway/al4w shows way back in the day.  It was really random.  Here’s a picture from the show.

Finch

Today I just hung out all day, painted my nails, and watched the Anthony Bordain marathon on the Travel Channel and Season 4 of Sex and the City.  Brett was at work, so I had the whole day to myself.  It would’ve been better if I could’ve fallen back to sleep after the alarm went off at 7:55am.  Now it’s time for bed!

a few of my favorite things

I am so over winter.  Even though we’ve barely had any snow, I’m still over it.  I need the sun and warmth on my skin.  I want to go to work in tank tops and flip flops again.  I want to wear a cute little dress and not freeze my ass off.  Feeling the need to surround myself with warm, sunny thoughts, I’ve put together a list of songs to put me in the summer spirit.  Some of them have “summer” in the title, others talk about summer and heat, others make me think of summer when I listen to them.

1.  Summer Shudder – AFI
Davey Havock sings of summer rain and it reminds me of how rain smells when it hits the hot ground.

2.  Song for Luna – As Tall As Lions
A warm song with a danceable tempo, the opening line is “summer.”

3.  Not the Sun – Brand New
Sun = heat.  Brand New = amazing.  Enough said.

4. Black Sandy Beaches – The Dear Hunter
Well, the beach reminds me of summer.  And I first heard this song in the summer of….2004, 2005?

5.  Crooked Teeth – Death Cab For Cutie
“It was 100 degrees as we sat beneath the willow tree”  I want it to be 100 degrees out!

6.  Summer Skin – Death Cab For Cutie
This whole song is about summer.  “Squeaky swings and tall grass/the longest shadows ever cast/the water’s warm and the children swim/and we frolicked about in our summer skin/I don’t recall a single care/just greenery and humid air/then labor day came and went/and we shed what was left of our summer skin.

7.  Chase This Light – Jimmy Eat World
For most people, this song isn’t about summer.  But for me it is.  When Jim Adkins sings, “Confetti rainfall in a quiet street” it reminds me of the time that TREOS played a show, I think it was in Milford, MA, at this church hall that was across the street from the town common.  It was summer time, and super humid inside the building.  After the sun set, it started pouring.  The street in-front of the building was a one-way and there was a cop car blocking the entrance so no kids would get hit by a car.  He had his flashing red & blue lights on, and it made the rain look like little confetti pieces frozen in the air.  It was the coolest thing ever.  Eryn, Nate and I sat on the steps in awe.

8.  Menos El Oso – Minus the Bear.
Yes, I know this is a whole album.  That’s because it screams summer to me.  There’s the story of the couple traveling “through the heat of the desert” in ‘Memphis & 53rd.’  There’s also the line in ‘Drilling’: “This is us on a western Atlantic coast/with no place to be/just taking in the sea.”  Or how about the story of skinny dipping in a pool in ‘The Fix.”  Does all that make you think of summer yet?  No?  Well, how about the man sitting “on a beach in the Mediterranean” in ‘Pachuca Sunrise.’  Or, sitting on the shore watching the waves on an Island in “This Ain’t A Surfin’ Movie.”  I love to listen to this album and take a long walk during the summer.  It makes me so happy.

9.  Florida – Modest Mouse
Simply for the fact that Florida is hot, humid and contains an abundance of palm trees and beautiful ocean water.  It also makes me think of all the times I’ve spent at my grandparents house in Florida.  This song has a great beat and melody and makes me happy when I listen to it.

10.  Light Up The Night – Recover
I don’t know why this song makes me think of summer, it just does.  I guess it makes me think of summer nights, running around causing chaos.

11.  You’re So Last Summer – Taking Back Sunday
This song makes me think of all the shows Chrissii, Kort, Eryn and I used to drive to.  Especially during the summer when we spent our entire weekends at shows.  We used to blast TBS and sing our little hearts out.

12.  Sun In An Empty Room – The Weakerthans
This reminds me of how warm the summer sun feels on my skin when it comes through a window.

Man, I really wish it were summer already.  I also sort of like this themed list idea.  Maybe I’ll have more to come!

So yesterday was Valentines Day.  I made dinner for Brett (salmon w/ dill butter, broccoli tossed in oil & garlic, lemon red skinned potatoes and homemade chocolate covered strawberries) it was yummy.  He got me a watch, since I lost the last one he gave me.  I swear it’s somewhere in our room though; I lost it when I was first taking medicine for bronchitis a few months ago.  I think I was all drugged up on medicine and threw it somewhere.  Ah well.

I have a 3 day weekend yay!  We’re going out to dinner on Saturday night, and going to see Finch on Sunday night and I can’t wait.  Not sure what we’re doing tonight though.

I hope everyone had a great Valentines Day!

Ch ch ch changes…

It’s funny how people and things change over time.

You ask people how they’re doing, and they don’t even have the audacity to ask you the same question back.  Time, circumstances, experiences all lead to change.  Sometimes change makes you happy, but right now, it’s disappointment I’m feeling.

I don’t need to dwell on the disappointments when there’s so much in my life that makes me happy.  For example, my boyfriend, my job, my family, and my friends that ask me, “I’m good, and you?” make me happy.

…that’s all I have to say about that.

Angry!!!

Sunday, February 3rd, 2008

My first post, of course, has to be with anger.  My beloved Patriots just lost to the Giants.  THE GIANTS!!!  I’m very upset with how the Pats played…in my opinon, they could’ve played so much better.  No perfect season, no perfect Pats… New York sucks, I can’t believe I live here.  Ugh.

So yes…my first post in my new blog…

 More to come…hopefully happier!!
